World War I: Origins and Alliances

Ever wondered how a single assassination could trigger a global war? World War I began on July 28, 1914, following the murder of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife in Sarajevo by Serbian citizen Gavrilo Princip. This assassination was the spark that ignited tensions that had been building across Europe for decades.

The true causes of the war can be remembered using the acronym MAIN: Militarism (countries building powerful armies and developing new weapons), Alliances (complex networks of mutual defense agreements), Imperialism (nations competing for colonial power and glory), and Nationalism (intense patriotic feelings that fueled rivalries). In the 19th century, Germany had emerged as a superpower after defeating France and capturing the mineral-rich Alsace-Lorraine region in 1871.

Europe was divided into two major alliance systems: the Triple Alliance Germany,AustriaHungary, andItalyGermany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy and the Triple Entente (Britain, France, and Russia). As the conflict expanded, other nations joined, including the Ottoman Empire (Turkey) on the side of the Central Powers, and the United States supporting the Allies.

Did you know? World War I was called "the war to end all wars" because people believed its destruction was so terrible that no one would ever want to fight another global conflict again. Unfortunately, just two decades later, World War II would begin.

The app is very easy to use and well designed. I have found everything I was looking for so far and have been able to learn a lot from the presentations! I will definitely use the app for a class assignment! And of course it also helps a lot as an inspiration.

Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
