Understanding the Rectangular Coordinate System

Rectangular Coordinate System Basics
Ever wonder how GPS finds your exact location? It uses the same principles as the coordinate system you'll learn here! A rectangular coordinate system consists of two number lines (called axes) that intersect at right angles, creating a map-like grid.
The x-axis runs horizontally while the y-axis runs vertically. Where these axes meet is called the origin (0,0). These axes divide the graphing area into four regions called quadrants.
Points on this grid are identified using ordered pairs (x,y), where x shows the horizontal position and y shows the vertical position from the origin. The x-value is always listed first! When a graph crosses the x-axis, we call this the x-intercept . Similarly, when it crosses the y-axis, we call this the y-intercept .
💡 Quick Tip: Remember that ordered pairs follow the "walk before you climb" rule - first move horizontally (x), then vertically (y) from the origin to find your point.

Graphing Linear Equations
Finding the points where a line crosses the axes is super helpful for graphing. This technique is called the intercept method and makes graphing much easier than plotting random points.
Remember that the order of coordinates matters! The point (3,2) is in a completely different location than (2,3). Mixing them up is like giving someone backwards directions.
To find x-intercepts, set y=0 in your equation and solve for x. For example, in the equation 4x-5y=-20, when y=0, we get 4x=-20, so x=-5. The x-intercept is (-5,0).
For y-intercepts, set x=0 and solve for y. Using the same equation, when x=0, we get -5y=-20, so y=4. The y-intercept is (0,4).
🔍 Test Prep Alert: When checking if an ordered pair is a solution to an equation, substitute both values into the equation and see if you get a true statement. If both sides equal each other, it's a solution!

The app is very easy to use and well designed. I have found everything I was looking for so far and have been able to learn a lot from the presentations! I will definitely use the app for a class assignment! And of course it also helps a lot as an inspiration.
This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.
Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
