Understanding and Solving Polynomials: A Guide to Factoring

Factoring Polynomials
Factoring means breaking up a polynomial into simpler parts that multiply to give the original expression. For example, instead of writing 4a²+8a, we can factor it as 4a, which is much easier to work with.
When a polynomial can't be factored any further, we call it prime. To factor using the Greatest Common Factor (GCF), start by identifying what number and variables are common to all terms. For variables, look for those that appear in every term and use the smallest exponent.
Next, divide each term by this GCF and place the remaining factors in parentheses. Always check your work by distributing (multiplying back) to make sure you get the original expression.
Quick Tip: Think of factoring as "undoing" multiplication. If you can multiply factors to get back to the original expression, you've factored correctly!

Extra Examples
When factoring expressions with variables in the denominator, you need to be careful with how you handle the division. If the same variable appears in both numerator and denominator, you can simplify by reducing.
For example, with , we can factor out 4y from the numerator to get $4y\frac{21cd-3d}{-3d}-3d$.
When working with more complex expressions, identify the GCF of all terms first. In , we need to recognize common factors in both numerator and denominator before simplifying.
Remember: When factoring fractions, look for the GCF in the numerator first, then see if you can simplify by canceling common factors with the denominator.

The app is very easy to use and well designed. I have found everything I was looking for so far and have been able to learn a lot from the presentations! I will definitely use the app for a class assignment! And of course it also helps a lot as an inspiration.
This app is really great. There are so many study notes and help [...]. My problem subject is French, for example, and the app has so many options for help. Thanks to this app, I have improved my French. I would recommend it to anyone.
Wow, I am really amazed. I just tried the app because I've seen it advertised many times and was absolutely stunned. This app is THE HELP you want for school and above all, it offers so many things, such as workouts and fact sheets, which have been VERY helpful to me personally.
